Stealth Snaky Disingenuous Racism

You should see this clip on cartoons that depict Obama as a Monkey and Ape. Thanks to the SJP blog for the international heads-up. More here for UK comment on the same story.

Stealth-Racist New York Times (owned by Rupert Murdoch)

So they call George Bush "Curious George" - depicting the White man as a monkey. All the while the patient stealth racist sits and waits for the opportunity. Sits and waits, waits and works on other projects. But all the while he waits, knowing the time will come. Patience, patience.

And then AT LAST it comes into his sites - a Black politician is in the most powerful position in the land - and his powerful economic "Stimulus Bill" is having an impact - and now "Oh thank you, thank you, the cartoonist cries" a recent news story (any monkey related news story will do) about an ape up to no good turns up at last. And so he quick as a wink draws the two together into a parody (click that last link to see full story) . Bang! bang! Got him! Bagged Obama as a stealth racism trophy! Give that man a low five!

Any complaints about him being a rac10 halloween costumes in 2008ist and the cartoonist and his boss will then no doubt pull out their little magic shield - all the other cartoons depicting Bush as a monkey-man. But such idiotic shields only works for snaky stealth racists and the ignoradult halloween costumesant. Because all this is transparently disingenuous patient opportunist stealth racism. Let’s name and shame them for what they are.

Anyone still left wondering what all this has to do with the sale of racial abuse imagery dolls such as gthe beautiful horse stars wearing the hair extensionsolliwogs and the painful history of the racist depiction of Black people as apes and monkeys in the USA and UK should see this website where they sell a stuffed toy that depicts President Obama of the USA as a monkey king.

So what is a crime?

Not always something that is against the law - you might argue - because laws change. I mean, think of gay sex or oral sex in the USA (just because it was outlawed once) was it really seen by the people as "a crime" or think about what constitutes obscenity (The Lady Chatterley's Lover trial for example) . On this theme, here is a great competition where you can use your expert or amateur photography skills to depict ANYTHING that you think is crime.

Right then I know a man with a large golliwog collection (no really I do) I'm off to photograph it.
